Specifications:
The theme of the Fall Festival 2025 is Myths and Leyendas: Mujeres. For 2025, the theme will be expanded into: Myths and Leyendas: Mujeres. Mujeres means “women”. There are many myths of women in Latin America: La Llorona (Wailing Woman) with regional varieties throughout Latin America, La Malinche in Mexico, La Santa Muerte (The Holy Death) in Mexico, La Siguanaba (horse-head woman) in El Salvador, La Sirena de Huacachina (Mermaid Princess) in Perú, La Pachamama (Earth Goddess) in Incan mythology, to name a few. In terms of legends, there are multitudes of legendary women to honor in remembrance. For example: environmental indigenous activist Berta Isabel Cáceres Flores from Honduras, indigenous leader Prudencia Ayala from El Salvador, singer Selena Quintanilla from Texas, literary giant Gabriela Mistral from Chile, and revolutionary Sisters Mirabal from Dominican Republic.

This theme empowers the artists to bring their own cultural background, gender identities/experiences in the creation of the large-scale sculpture. Applicants are encouraged to explore different interpretations of the theme through their Statement for Proposal in the application materials.

Large-scale artwork to uplift the roles womxn have played in mythology and folklore of Latin America/Latinx culture, and strive to educate the general public. Temporary sculptures should be visible from the street and weather-resistant to outdoor conditions.

Artists selected must be able to commit to the following dates:

  • Artist Workshop – Saturday, September 6, 2025
  • Artist Studio Visits – Thursday, October 2, 2025 – Sunday, October 5, 2025
