Chief Development Officer – ALMAAHH

The Opportunity

ALMAAHH (Advocates of a Latino Museum of Cultural and Visual Arts & Archive Complex in Houston, Harris County) is seeking a passionate, team player, strategic visionary, and highly experienced Chief Development Officer (CDO) to join our leadership team at a pivotal moment in the organization’s evolution. Over the next years, ALMAAHH will become a landmark destination—a vibrant arts and culture hub anchoring a thriving cultural corridor that cements Houston’s position as the national epicenter for American Latino arts and cultures.

This is more than a fundraising role—it is an invitation to help shape history. The CDO will play a central role in building the philanthropic foundation for one of the country’s most ambitious cultural initiatives. ALMAAHH’s future complex will be a home for American Latino stories, creativity, and community. Key funding initiatives are already underway, offering a solid platform to build from. The successful candidate will work with an exceptional Board of Directors, a dedicated President, talented staff, and inspiring local and national leaders to bring this vision to life.

This is also an opportunity to build a broad, plural movement—one that goes beyond Latino communities alone and engages Houstonians and allies from all backgrounds who believe in the transformative power of arts and culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, lead, and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy aligned with ALMAAHH’s strategic plan and long-term vision that includes building a dynamic philanthropy team.
  • Lead major fundraising initiatives, including the capital campaign to fund the creation of the arts and culture complex.
  • Cultivate and steward relationships with foundations, corporations, civic entities, and individual donors.
  • Collaborate with operations and programming staff to leverage partnerships and arts and culture events for the capital campaign.
  • Develop a dynamic individual giving program and its supporting processes, fostering a sense of community involvement and widespread support for the project, utilizing current and prior efforts as a foundation.
  • Work with the President, Board of Directors, and external consultants to identify funding prospects and align efforts.
  • Partner with staff to ensure grant applications, reports, and fundraising communications are timely and effective.
  • Support the building of a national network of allies and supporters—Latino and non-Latino—committed to cultural vitality, inclusion, and public dialogue.
  • Represent ALMAAHH at key events, conferences, and donor meetings.

Qualifications

  • 7–10 years of leadership experience in fundraising, development, or advancement
  • Proven success leading capital campaigns, major gifts programs, and diversified revenue streams
  • Passion for American Latino arts, culture, and public impact
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and strategic planning skills
  • Ability to collaborate across teams and with community-based, philanthropic, and civic partners
  • Strong understanding of donor stewardship and grant compliance
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage technology and artificial intelligence tools to enhance fundraising, donor engagement, and organizational efficiency.

This is a full-time position with competitive salary and benefits, based on experience and qualifications.
